What the telemarketer taught me

We are being bombarded by phone solicitors. Yes, we are on the do not call list but it isn't working. Every day a 1-800 number rings the house. Sometimes we pick up then hang up. Sometimes we wait to see if they'll leave a message. They don't. So yesterday I answer it and the lady asks for my husband. I say "Please do not call here ever again." *click* It is super frustrating. And I try to be nice but jeeze, give up already. If we want to buy something, we'll seek it out. If we want to refinance something, we'll do it. If we want to donate to something, you'll get your $$ when you get it. If we want to insure something, chances are it's already insured. Yet the calls continue.

What makes them so persistent? Telemarketers would have to be a hardy bunch...enduring the verbal assault they no doubt experience on a daily basis. It reminds me of how persistent Jesus is to get to our hearts. He calls all the time...during dinner, at night while we are sleeping, on the way to work, through a message on Sunday, through a friend, through His Word, through a circumstance in life, through the choices we make, through a telemarketer...

*ring ring* "Hey Rebecca, Jesus here. Just calling to touch bases with you. I've been waiting for you to return my call. How many messages do I have to leave already? I'm desperate to talk to you. What's up? Holla back."

I used to hate hearing the phone ring. I think now whenever someone calls, I'll always be reminded of spending time with The One who is truly in pursuit of me.
